Social Media Transparency Statement

This transparency statement outlines the National Cyber Security Centre's approach to using and managing social media.

Social Media Use

The NCSC has a presence on LinkedIn(external link). Staff at the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) use our LinkedIn account to inform our audience of our latest information, reports, insights, and guidance.

Content we publish may include, but is not limited to:

  • Guidance issued by the NCSC
  • News, updates, media releases, or other publications
  • Annual cyber threat reports
  • Information about our products and services
  • Information about recruitment opportunities
  • Other information that reinforces our key messages and functions

We may follow or ‘like’ content from a particular person or organisation relevant to the NCSC. This does not imply the NCSC’s endorsement of them, their views, or guarantee the accuracy of their information.

Posts by others that tag or link to the NCSC are the responsibility of that person or organisation.

Engagement

We welcome feedback and engagement and will interact with content (including any private or direct messages) at our discretion and in a respectful, neutral and factual manner.

Our staff acting in an official capacity will identify themselves along with their position within the organisation, and state that they are representing the National Cyber Security Centre. At times, people employed by the NCSC may engage in forums on LinkedIn and other online channels in a personal capacity. Any opinions or views expressed in their personal capacity belong to the individual staff member.

Monitoring

While we appreciate differing viewpoints may be expressed, we reserve the right to moderate or remove content when appropriate. This includes content that is deemed irrelevant, offensive or harmful, breaches legislation, has political bias, constitutes spam, or is otherwise damaging.

We may report or block anyone who posts the above content or who breaches the terms of the LinkedIn User Agreement(external link).

Privacy

If you choose to voluntarily provide personal information through our LinkedIn, this information may be viewable by account administrators, and our staff, as appropriate. Any information provided to us will be stored and kept secure in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020(external link). We will not otherwise disclose personal information provided or collected through our social channels unless required or otherwise permitted by law.

Copyright

The material we publish on LinkedIn is protected by Crown copyright, unless otherwise indicated. Our content may include links to other websites or information that is the copyright of third parties, and subject to restrictions regarding use or reproduction. We cannot grant you permission to use this material.
