Artificial Intelligence Guide for Small Businesses

Many small businesses are using AI through applications like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot. This joint guidance has been developed to help them understand the cyber security implications.

Adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) is growing fast. Many small businesses are starting to use AI to help drive growth, automate tasks, provide insights and improve customer experience.

If AI has become part of your business operations, or you’re considering adopting AI technologies, understanding the key cyber security risks is essential. These include:

  • data leaks and privacy breaches
  • reliability and manipulation of AI outputs
  • supply chain vulnerabilities.

To help your small business navigate this evolving landscape, we’ve partnered with the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) and the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) to release Artificial intelligence for small businesses.

This joint guidance helps small businesses understand the key AI cyber security risks and what they can do to protect themselves when they are using AI tools. It also provides a practical checklist to help business owners ensure they understand the key risks and steps associated with adopting AI.
