Cyber Resilience Advice: Assessing the risks of social media applications on government mobile devices

This NCSC Cyber Resilience Advice sets out considerations to assist New Zealand Government agencies in making risk-based decisions about the use of social media applications (apps) on government phones and other devices.

Downloading social media apps onto agency devices can introduce risks when permissions enable external parties to access an organisation’s information. Because it can be difficult to modify an app’s permissions, it is recommended that agencies focus on how they can control the device, and access to any official information stored on it, rather than attempting to control the social media app itself.

This advice will help agencies’ security and risk staff to understand, assess and (where necessary) approve social media apps for use in their agency.
