NSA guidance: reducing the risk of network compromises

The USA's National Security Agency (NSA) has released two cybersecurity information sheets (CSIs) with best practices to help government teleworkers and their systems administrators secure their networks and handle potential compromises.

Compromised Network Indicators and Mitigations

  • This CSI provides information on how to identify and mitigate personal network compromises to secure data and protect government-furnished equipment when used for telework. This CSI includes indicators of a compromised network and mitigation techniques to prevent future compromises, both proactively and reactively.

Out-of-Band Network Management

  • Out-of-band network management is designed to isolate management traffic from operational traffic. This isolation prevents compromised user devices or malicious traffic from impacting network operations or compromising network infrastructure.
  • This CSI provides an overview of the out-of-band network management concept, and enables systems administrators to evaluate the benefits of physical versus virtual segmentation of operational and management infrastructure. This product can be found here.(external link)
